I have an F150 with 180,000 miles on it. I noticed that some thick bearing grease has been slung all over my right rear quarter panel, wheel and inner fender well. I thought the rear outer bearings were lubricated by the gear oil in the rear axle housing? Does it have a packed bearing back there? If so, I guess I have a seal going out. If not, maybe I ran over it in the road.
AND! if I have to fix this ... are there any special tools required, special huge sockets, long socket extensions or pullers, etc .... ? Is there just one seal per side to replace? |

Re: Bearing grease(not gear oil) from rear axle?
Quote:
look at the back side of the wheel, that's where the grease would be. could be either gear oil, brake fluid, or road spatter. best way is to just pull off the brake drum and look |
