Variable Inlet Cam
Hi there
I have been on the phone again today talking about tuning and someone has come up with a new problem. Does anyone know about a problem with the variable inlet cam when running increased boost? Apparently this causes a serious flat spot at around 4500 rpm, you need to upgrade the ECU to get rid of this problem, and is this really a problem. So what do you think? Has anyone else come across this as the ECU replacement is £450. Calv |

Many people have mentioned this problem. All I can say is that I didn't notice anything flat anywhere in the rev range when I was running lots of boost.

Increased boost
Hi Moondog
I tried what you said to temporarily increase boost, and it did, the boost gauge when right up to +7, but I think it was infact slightly slower! thanks for the info though, I also have now replaced my front pipe and fitted a cat replacement pipe. Calv Ps: NiteskyR where abouts in the UK are you? |

replacement ECU
You don't NEED a replacement ECU on a Skyline unles you push huge BHP. All you need to do is find a friendly electronic repar shop thing.
From memory it is an 84pin socket (for a surface mount chip) that needs soldering onto the board. If they have the right kit, then it should take 5 mins and realistically cost no more than 25-50 quid. The Eprom that goes in it can either be copied from a nice person or most garages sell them for 80-100 quids. I paid Middlehurtsts 100 for mine. So there you go. Ive just reduced the bill by 350 quids. |
