1998 Amigo Buying

I am looking to buy an amigo and failed to see any thred reguarding reliability, maybe im blind, but anywhoo I got one for 6k with 44 thousand miles on it, 2.2 4cly 5 speed. if someone could please give me some ideas on the kind of vehicle im going to be dealing with tere tha'd be great. i got a focus now and HATE that FOOKER, nice car but frustrates the ever living Poop outa me. Anyway please tell me if theya re raliable and what problems thye have, TY

The number one thing to keep up on the 2.2L (GM engine, also found in the S10, Malabu, Saturns ....) to to change the timing belts every 45k or so. There was a recall (or maybe it was a TSB?) about changing the timing belt sooner then normal. If the timing belt snaps, the engine will be trashed (valves will slam into the pistons).

I was just reading something about the timing belt issue earlier. The way I understand it is there is more to it. When you get the belt done, do all associated parts. I am not exactly sure what they are, but it seems like some of the gears or tensioner goes bad as well. It causes it to lock up.

i do not have this engine, so I did not read a ton of the posts. Don't worry though, just keep up on the maintenance and you will be fine. But when the belt is due, get it done, and ask about what other related parts should be replaced. Take it to a shop that knows isuzu's for the timing belt.

That sounds like a nice price for those miles. You might want to get the belt done soon though. Maybe even talk the price down due to this.
