Question

ooohhh.....glad you posted this. My car is doing the same thing. Except it actually dies. I've adjusted the idle but it keeps going back to where it was before?? Am i doing something wrong??

When i'm at the stop light I have to sit with my foot on the brake and the accelerator and rev to about 2grand. I know this can't be good for my car, but I can't get it to idle right. Any suggestions??

check your throttle body for any crap in there, sometimes a malfunctioning positive crankcase ventilation system (aka PCV) can force oil out of the valve cover breather and clog up the idle air control valve or throttle plate itself. just a suggestion.

try spraying some carburetor cleaner into the PCV valve. Don't spary like crazy when you do it because your engine will attemp to die as you spray it in, due to lag of O2 and fuel. Just adjust the amount you spray and spray multiple times and that should clean out your PCV valve and bring the idle back up. Don't worry, the cleaner will not damage your engine at all.

Great to hear someone is having the same issues. My 98 Ex w/110k miles just started doing the stalling thing at stop lights. Replaced the PCV, thoroughly cleaned the throttle body and adjusted the throttle cable. Still doing it.
Gonna contact the dealer about replacing the IAC valve.
Anyone know if these are available aftermarket?

I don't know if it's the same thing that you guys are talking about, but a few months back my car was doing the same thing...it wouldn't idle w/o dying on me. Every time I slowed down to an idle, it would kind of shudder, and the engine would die. I freaked out about it b/c I couldn't stop at stopsigns/lights and it was embarassing to have to keep on starting up my car. hehehe
Turned out that I just had a bad tank of gas. I just got some concentrated fuel injector cleaner and put it in. It took about 2 weeks to fix the problem, but it turned out that was it I guess...
Never had the same problem since.
Funny thing was it was Chevron gas. I had talked to one of my buddies and turned out that he had gone to the same gas station as me on the same day and his truck had the same problem.
Go figure

I've had the same thing for a about a year. although after I adjusted the throttle cable, it didn't do it all the time. just occasionally, and not as bad. Here's a "how to" link for the people who don't know how to adjust the throttle cable...
