Problem starting

OK, I have a '97 Pontiac Grand Prix, 3800 II V6, new batt. Car has 103K miles.
Issue: Intermitantly, when you put the key into the igntion and attempt to start, ALL power cuts off. I can't remove the key, it won't turn back past 'on'.
Have tried: Fuses, check all of them; disconnected neg batt terminal to reset; tried different key.
Nothing has worked. I just have to wait for what ever is messing up to timeout, then I try again. It takes between 5 min and a couple of hours to time out. Does not matter with temp, if car is warmed up, two people, or one.
Any ideas?

Re: Problem starting

Sounds like the security system to me. Check other threads on this forum for similar problems and some good ideas on how to solve the problem.

I am having identical problem with my 97 GT. When I tried to start it, all the power cut off and the key would not turn pass on. Last time it happened, power came back on after pushing shift lever release and moving the lever to neutral. However, today nothing. Removed the key by pressing the button under the steering colum. Any idea's need to get it started to take it to the dealer.
