Completed Ford Lightning

Finally found the time to throw this one together, unfortunately that's all I could do. The chassis was warped, and I had two cans of spraypaint on top of the truck to straighten it out but it didn't work too well and the cab and bed lines don't match up. Really heartbreaking actually, since this is the truck I want to own when I graduate. I'll have to try again some other time.

Interior:

Here you can see the lines of the cab and bed clearly. I tried to avoid showing it in pictures because I'm so disappointed in myself, I built a straighter truck the first time I did this model and it was my third ever.

The stance came out okay, I love the wheels. Also made some tips for it, boy was that hard, with the angle of the exhaust and the bed:

Here are the two 99 SVT models I've built, together:

The Cobra needs a resto, it's done a few photo shoots!

i can't really tell, you made a pretty sick ford, blue sets it off, and the grills are awesome.

Re: Completed Ford Lightning

I dont believe the taurus was ever made in an SVT badge. It was however made under SHO. There is a model of a Taurus SHO and Ebay or swap meets would be the easiest way to find one.

Re: Completed Ford Lightning

Fantastic color, and the rims are perfect for it. You did really well at hiding the warped chassis. Too bad it came that way, some kits come busted up. Revell would replace the part if you asked. Great work, the paint is incredible. Two things I'd like to point out, do you mind? The rims are great but lack depth, a slight black wash would work but I hate washes. Alternatively, you could paint the webbing between the spokes (where the lugs are) a steel color to provide some contrast. The other thing - the billit grill is great! What did you make it from? I ask, because it they were curved to match the curvature of the front end, they would look better and really set this model off. But like I said, this thing is great! And don't let me judge, I'm no expert. Fanstastic work.

Willimo- I used styrene strips for the grill. It was a spur of the moment idea, I was looking at the grill and decided I hated it so I cut it out. The original idea was to use some thick wire and curve it, but I don't have the patience or the time for it right now so I used the strips. I'll give the wheels some attention later on. It doesn't even have an intake at the moment, it's not really "finished" but it's as close as I can get for the next month or so.

I didn't realize how bad the fitment was until I started final assembly, and by then it was pretty much too late to get a new chassis from Revell. I cut down the springs on the front and trimmed down all the mounting points for the cab, trying to get it on the same level as the bed without sacrificing the bed's ride height and it just didn't work out for me. I guess I'll have to display this one from the drivers side.

SVT has made the Mustang Cobra, Contour, Lightning, and now Focus. I may pick up the Focus eventually, not sure what color though...the '03 Cobra I'm making (may be done by the time the 2007 Cobra comes out) will be yellow, and the Lightning is blue...Who knows, white maybe? The Taurus was an SHO model, and a neat one at that. I had the opportunity to drive one and it was a blast; I accidentally burned a lot of rubber leaving the parking lot and even got a second-gear scratch out of...a four door granny car!
