1987 camaro cranks but wont run!

Hey there
I have an 87 z28 tuned port i bought for an S10 V8 swap. I was told the car needed a starter when i bought it a while back. It had been sitting a couple of years when i got a hold of it. So far heres what i have. I checked the starting system in accordance with the gm service manual and found the starter to be bad . Replaced now turns over but wont start. I ran several other gm tests and found fuel pump to be bad i replaced it and immediately had fuel pump activation and pressure as described in the gm manual however it wont start it has good spark on more than one cylinder and the pump keeps running as long as the reference pulses are being sent to ecm (signal from ignition module while turning over). My next step is to check the fuel pressure tomorrow i have to buy a gauge. I'm hoping possibly a clogged filter. Any help in this would be greatly appreciated as i am new to EFI

The pump isn't being run by the ref pulses from the distributor, it is being run by oil presure getting above 7psi during the cranking, through the low oil pressure switch.

That being said....check the ignition module, IF the ECM isn't seeing the distributor ref pulses it will NOT fire the injectors.

Red face oh! now i see said the blind man.

That really clarifies what i read in the book, but didn't quite understand. I guess i should use a test light to check if the injectors are getting the ecm signal to pump if not is there a way to test the ignition module? Thanks

Yes, use the "noid" light to check weather the injectors are are firing during cranking. If they aren't check for 12V on each injector wire to ground.
Most any auto parts store can check the ignition module...but don't buy one from them..only use AC Delco modules..the others are flaky at best.

Finally solved

Hey again
I checked the reference pulses and they were there. I also bought a fuel pressure guage at napa and it was holding steady at 41 psi. It was acting like it wanted to start sputtered a bit but wouldn't run. Finally i rechecked the spark at the plugs and plug gap. The gap was at 50 i set it to 35 as per the book. The spark looked weak so i pulled the dist. cap and low n behold the rotor was damp and had signs of spark skatter and the terminals looked a little cooked. Replaced both fired right up. Ran it for a few minutes and drove it around our parking lot at work. I jumpered the aldl and the only code displayed is a 22. Hope its just an adjustment. Thanks for the help and hope this helps someone else!
