is it worth moddifying a probe?

Hey my probe's got 118,000 miles on it. it's a 94 gt. i was thinking about putting around 10 grand in it, getting the klze engine upgrade, and getting turbo's installed(maybe super charged!!!) but the thing is... it's still fwd. besides the fact the probe is fwd, is it a good building block? or should i look into a difern't kind of car? thing is, the probe looks sooo good. well it really doesn't right now, but after all my mod's it will . right now the car is having problems, and i don't want to put 10 grand into it, then have sensor's keep going out on me. do they make a 6 speed transmission for the probe? or is there anyway you can get one in there? cause i hate when your on the high way and your running at 4000 rpm's. ok thanks,
-tom

Re: is it worth moddifying a probe?

do they make a 6 speed transmission for the probe?
--no
they only had 5speed mtx and/or 4speed atx w/od

on the highway @ 80mph my rpms are @ ~3000
the only way my rpms hit the 4k+ mark is when i want to pass a minivan whore (aka soccer moms) on the highway [ they drive too slow in my opinion]

now for the engine, depending on where you look you can get a jdm klze motor 2.5 L V6 mazda motor for your probe gt @ $1000 to $1500. i would also get a matching jdm tranny for the probe gt too

in my probegt (atx tranny), around 80mph the rpms are 3200
also depending on the elevation of the highway,
they will hit the 4k mark with out flooring it.
if you put the $10k or more into the car,
the probegt will smoke a 3000gt

Re: is it worth moddifying a probe?

yea, i would never get a stock 3000gt or an sl, id definatly have to get a vr-4, but im still thinking about moding my probe. would a 94 pgt with the klze engine upgrade, new klze ecu, new klze transmission, turbo's, completly new dual exhaust, a true cold air intake, and new high performance fuel pump, also high performance plugs and wires installed, beat a 3000gt vr-4. also i want to do some weight reductions to my probe, taking out the back seat, and stuff. can anyone else think of some things i should do? and does it sound like i could do all this for under 10 grand? with labor? i could do some work myself, but not as much as id like to. oh yea, can you bore out the cylinders and the throttle body on the klze engine? and should i get a high performance computer chip installed to? thanks,
tom
hmm, anything else?

Re: is it worth moddifying a probe?

a vr4 is only high 13's a j-spec with basic bolt-ons will run low 14's maybe tap high 13's so a turbo j-spec will easily walk a vr4
