good ole' Helms manual

Well I'm breaking down and finally buying a Helms manual HOWEVER when I headed to their site, they offer two different kinds:

http://www.helminc.com/helm/Result.a...9WH2T7U1EW2TF0

(1) 1996-99 CIVIC 2/3/4 DOOR SHOP MANUAL
(2) 1996-2000 CIVIC SERVICE MANUAL

I want the shop manual, correct? Or is there a benefit with the service?

Chiltons manuals are garbage. Try changing a transmission or getting exact torque specs for every bolt on your car with that chiltons crap.

I thought the shop manual would get a bit more in depth - but then again, I'm the one asking, "which one?"

I seem to vaguely remember a question like this in the past. I THINK (a big emphasis on the "think") that the shop manual is designed more as a troubleshooting manual, like "Here is problem, possible solution = a, b, c, etc.." and the service manual is designed to give information on every nut/bolt and plastic trim clip in the car. I could have those reversed, or I could just be totally wrong, but for some reason that's what my brain wants to say. You could always find a customer service number for them and inquire about it. Let us know what you find out!

Damn those Helms manuals are expensive. Since Chilton's has already been discounted by a couple of people, how are the Haynes manuals?

the one you want is the service manula. The shop manual is for trouleshooting general problems as mentioned above.

In addition, Hayne's manual are a little more specific than Chilton's, but are still garbage.

The Helm's manual's are well worth he money. It will be the best investment you ever put into your car.
