Best Gas
I was wondering if I could get some opinions on what the best gas to use is. I have a 98 LE 4 cylinder with 128,000 miles on it. I'm currently putting Cheveron Premium. Premium for the added performance, and Cheveron because I've heard it's the best gas. Is this true? Is Shell V-Power also good?
I've heard Arco is the worst because of it's notably-high ethenol level. Is this true? |

Well I use 76, 91 octane. Propower or something, I like it because stops engine knock and burns deposits.

I've used Chevron 87 octane (southern California) in both my 92 and 03 4-cylinder Camrys with perfectly good results. Using higher octane gave me no increases in power nor mileage.

Re: Best Gas
I use all the major brands in rotation - 89 octane. I never use Exxon. I haven't forgiven them for the Exxon Valdeez fiasco yet.

Re: Best Gas
Higher octane is a waste of money. It is only for higher compression engines. If you experience knock, try another brand or the next grade, but you should not need it.
I have always used the least expensive gas 86 or 87 and mine nowadays has about 10% ethanol for smog reduction since MTBE is no longer used here. That premium gas has probably cost you about a $1000 extra so far. That goes a long way to fix any repairs that may or may not ever happen. 311,000 miles on 4 cyl 92 |
