Re: 95camero more troubles......

engine light on? rough idling? what else were you trying to fix?

if your cat or pipe isnt clogged Ide say your car is running so rich that the unburned fuel is igniting inside the cat..

Re: 95camero more troubles......

how did you test it to see if it was clogged? what we do at the dealership is to pour water into it, if the water flows through as fast as you fill it its ok, but if it fills up even for a breif moment then its clogged. and you should get a new one.

aside from that, it sounds like it is burning way rich, i would replace your O2 sensor to start, also check your air filter, if it is clogged it will not allow as much air into the engine, which will cause a rich mixture.

Re: 95camero more troubles......

come to think of it, poor combustion in general will cause this, when was the last time you had a "tune up" on the car? you could need sparkplugs, wires, cap rotor, air filter, PCV valve all that fun stuff.

Re: 95camero more troubles......

I just had new plugs.. and the pcv was cleaned or replaced.. the air filter was just replaced even had new wires put on ... so i guess it just had a tune up... I took it to have some codes ran .. they told me i needed new wires... so I am gonna have that changed again .. do you think that that will make a difference.... ***by the way thanks for all the help***

Re: 95camero more troubles......

depending on the wires that needed to be replaced it could definatly cause the problems you are having.. You dont by chance remember which wires they were replacing?

.. Iwas wrong no wires were previously replaces... but last night the spark plug wires were replaced... I dont know if you read the problems that i posted on ???95cameroHelp??? but that was why we canged the wires to hopefully stop the rought idle, and it dose the same thing it does when it idles but at 45-55mph..?? The new wires didn't help this problem .. any other suggestions for that?

Re: 95camero more troubles......

how do you have it checked?.... My friend had a firebird with a good motor... well everything worked except something in side, something ceased up i think im not sure ...but all the sensors were supposed to be in good working order... anyways.. he switched all the sensors one by one from that car to mine to see if it made a diffrence in the way it ran... I beleive he did this with the O2 sensor also.... If the part didnt change the way that the car ran than he would put my part back on my car... would we have been able to tell if it effected the way the car ran if we were only running it in the garage, we didnt take it on the street.. we just wanted to see if it would stop the jumping... Should it have stoped.. or would i not be able to tell ????

Re: 95camero more troubles......

no if you did that, assuming his O2 sensor was fine it should have cured it. But you can check them by hooking up a Tech2 to the car and watching the real time data, you can see the signal from the O2 and tell if its working correctly.

again, how did you test the catalytic converter to decide if it was ok?
