rear end trouble ? (Have 3 days to return)

Brought home vehicle from dealer for weekend. When shifting from Park into Reverse, and then from Neutral into Drive, the rear end hesitates for a second, then kind of clunks, and seems like it wants to start turning (I have brake fully engaged.) It almost seems like when you have a bad automatic tranny, hesitation and nonsmooth shifting, but I swear it is coming from the rear. Thanks for all your help. Wont take it if it needs rear end rebuild (unless it is cheaper than i`ve heard)

Re: rear end trouble ? (Have 3 days to return)

It's hard to tell just by the written word, but what you describe can also be caused by bad universal joints and/or a loose pinion yoke. The U-joints are a much more common problem (an much cheaper to fix) than the rear end,

I would suggest taking to to an independent mechanic right away for an inspection.
I would suggest you take a look underneath too, when the mechanic is under there.
