Taking it out, its a slight pain, but sounds like you need a new one.

Re: clogged heater core?

I think i gotta replace my core as well... my car runs on the first notch below the middle one on the temp gauge (dunno what the numbers are) very consistently... but i get very little heat from the heater. even with full coolant. it's funny though... i just put a new thermostat in (180*), and after driving for plenty of time, i can actually hold on to the upper radiator hose... it's wierd. any ideas?

To be Ozone safe and legal that should be done at a specific shop before the project. It can also be done by removing the line going into the top of the compressor, but I can not say to do it that way because it's not environmentally safe.
