Hello all,
Lately the security light in my 98 intrigue is coming on while I'm driving or starting up the car and won't turn off until the car is off. Any thoughts on what it might be and how to fix it? TIA, A_ |

Re: Security light
Have you tried using a different key? Does your key have the little pellet on the center of it? If so you might try cleaning the key really well using something like alcohol.

Re: Security light
Intrigues don't have the pellets in the key - there's a resistor in the ignition switch instead. I thought you would know of all people, LittleHoov. That's GM's old method.
It seems like your passkey sensor has gone bad. You could try cleaning inside your ignition switch with some compressed air, but you may end up needing a new ignition switch. |

Re: Security light
Haha why the heck does everyone assume I know everything? I really dont, not even close.
My 96 Bonneville had a pellet, my 2000 Intrigue doesnt, somewhere in there they switched, but I didnt know when, figured it didnt hurt to ask. With the resistor being in the ignition switch, its unlikely that the key is the problem. With that being said, replacing just the ignition switch may not do the trick, because from what Ive read(never actually done) when you replace the ignition switch, you must also swap out the Passlock "doo-dad", to make the new switch work with your old keys. If that "thingy" doesnt work right to start with, then I dont see how swapping out the ignition switch, especially when there are no other switch-related problems, would help anything. Im sure theres a way to swap out the resistor or something, but I honestly have no idea, and im merely pulling stuff out of my butt here, which is what I always do, but yet have still someone gained a reputation for knowing everything, go figure.
