Now are you talking about with his stock fuel system....becuase im pretty sure you can run higher boost with a 16g when you have a a fuel pump, injectors, etc.

Re: How much boost???

With a 190lph fuel pump, you could probably pull 17 psi relatively safely until you get bigger injectors. You try to go any farther and you will become a slave to fuel cut . Though, I wouldn't do anything else until you get a pocketlogger w/ palm so you can see what's going on. Once you get some injectors, fuel pump, pocketlogger, and possibly an AFC (something to tune with) you can turn up the boost even more . Until then, stick with whatever you're at right now (shouldn't be more than about 14psi).

Re: How much boost???

Matt is completely right--get a 1g datalogger ($30 palm, $10 cable, free software download (Tunerstein)), and hook it up. If your timing is getting pulled (i.e. timing drops off lower as rpm increases, instead of gradually rising), then you are knocking, and you want to turn boost down.

Does Tunerstein log knock count in 1g's?

Thanks guys for your inputs!
I also had another question....I was also wondering how would you know exactly how much boost you are pushing? I've noticed that on 4th and 5th gear boost gets up higher around 10-11psi. From 1st gear it's like 5psi, 2nd is like 7psi, and 3rd is 8-9psi. So i don't know which one to go by...My buddy told me to foor it on 5th gear and see what psi it hits then that would be how much you would be boosting. Is that true??? BTW i have an Autometer boost gauge....Thanks!

Re: How much boost???

KN Filter raises some HP/TQ, but you'll need more stuff to make the stock Boost Gauge go higher or prolly a BC. Well, what i thought was that all you needed was just the common stuff
-BC
-2.5" to 3.0" piping to exhaust
-after market exhaust manifold
-new inter cooler pipings
-fuel pump
-wastegate
and you're good to go.....17 to 18? but thats pretty high, im guessing 14-15 psi for daily driver...

Re: How much boost???

forced: keep it at 14psi untill you get bigger injectors. or find the upper psi limits of 3rd and see where you hit fuel cut, then back it off 1/4psi at a time untill no fuel cut.

bad4g63: get an aftermarket boost gauge. then get a boost controller and play with it like that.

hey the car that i am about to buy is a 91 tsi Awd. and it has enough supporting mods that he drives at 14psi Daily Drivin (i think stock fuel system). Now i have some RC 550cc injectors and a 255 lph Walbro laying around form my old RX-7. I know that i will need a pocketlogger. but how high do you think i can run once it is fully tuned through the logger

Re: How much boost???

make sure that the injectors from the 7 are the right impedence for the talon. some injectors are high impedence some are low and dsm's aren't the same as most cars.

yea i know that. both cars use low impedence injectors. the 91 AWD talons used low's, Right. and if the connectors arent right i have a guy that i can get plugs from to shap into the RC injectors so what kinda boost shoud i set it to once tuned.

Re: How much boost???

BTW rewire the fuel pump when you put in the walbro. vfaq.com has directions
