I'm shopping for a new car and I've narrowed my choice to the Accord or Jetta. Does anyone have any input on which one I should buy and why? Thanks.

Welcome aboard.

I'm a fan of both, so It's hard for me to say.
If you want an automatic, I'd get the Accord V6
If you want a manual, I'd get a Jetta, and try for a 1.8T.

Keep us all posted with what you get and how you mod it.

i'll vouch for the accord's dependability. my mother has gone through 2 accords, each with 200,000+ problem-free miles on them. the only times they've ever been in the shop is for regularly scheduled maintenance. but jettas can look pretty tight fixed up.

what model years are we talkin about here? consider the fact that the accord is considerably roomier than the jetta. if that matters to you. i'm not all too familiar with volkswagon reliability, but honda's reputation speaks for itself.

yea it depends on which year. i like the 2 door accord (99-2001). but if u r getter a newere jetta 99 and up get the 1.8 t with manual. both are great cars for dependability.

i would rather have a Jetta VR6 unless it was a 2 door Accord V6.
The new 2 door Accords are awesome, the engine is great too 240 hp!

You could find a good 99-01 VR6 or 1.8T Jetta for about $15K right now. Models years newer than that are still pricey.

Just note that VW cars can pretty much only be fixed and checked up at VW dealers, so don't get one if you must drive like 100 miles to the nearest VW shop. I learned that the hard way.

In terms of reliability, the above statement pretty much gives it away. The Honda is going to be your best bet unless there's a VW dealer/shop close by. Otherwise, you'll be a lot happier with the handling and acceleration of the Jetta.
