91 Tracer custom intake

I'm trying to make a new air intake for my car. It has a 1.8 DOHC. The sensor is in the same box as the filter. I'm taking all this out and using a new pipe, how should I keep the sensor in the pipe somehow? Can you just leave a sensor hanging in a pipe? Any ideas would help
