Tranny Swapin

How many people here have swapped their auto tranny for a manual? How much did it cost and how long was it gone? Thanks in advance

About 4 that I know of. I will be #5 SOON! It depends on the mechanic as to how long it would take. If you can find someone willing to do it.

You can save quite a bit of $ if you DIY. In case you're interested.

DIY

How hard would it be for someone with little true automobile mechanical experience but a lot of heart to swap a tranny?

Unless you've got the tools, the lift (or some serious floor jacks) and above average knowledge of auto mechanics don't even thing about it!

The job will involve not only the transmission, but installing clutch cables and pedal, shifter, etc. etc. maybe the linkage (drive shaft) will have to be modified, this is not something you should do yourself.

Go to a salvage yard and locate a good used transmission there, have a trustworthy mechanic overhaul it and install it for you, at least then you have a guarantee that it will work the way it's supposed to.

Although it's no comparison, I've looked into taking the C4 out of my old Stang in exchange for a T5 and quickly learned this is not a weekend job. I've done intake manifolds, head swaps, accessories, electrical but when it came to that I had to realize that I had limitations.

I hope I'm not too negative, but I'd hate to see you get into it and have to have it towed some place to finish the job.

Take care and good luck.
