Subs: 1 ported or two sealed?

MMK....i think i will be getting a sub or subs for xmas. What i am wondering is what will sound best in our car with the hatch right next to the subs. One 12'' ported or two 12'' or 10'' sealed. Maybe even two 12'' ported if its possible, but that would just be overkill possibly. Just wondering what you guys think. Please if u have subs or know a lot about them comment cus i need some good advice. Thanks Again.

Re: Subs: 1 ported or two sealed?

ported means that they have a hole in the box, that the sub pushes air through and it doubles the power of the sound.

I had 2 12" subs in an unported box int he back of my stealth, well it was really the back seat, but htey faced backward, with 2 12's you will actually be able to see the back half of you car flex in and out about 1/4" with all doors and windows closed, not advised to keep windows closed with teh system up. ears will pop. 2 12" subs is not over kill, its just alot of air movement for such a small space. and it all depends on what you are going for, hugh bass, great sounding music, or total bass( car alarms going off 1/4 mile away)

I have 2 12" Kicker L7 solos with a Hifonics Brutus 1500D amp. The bass is unbelievable. I definitely recommend this setup, you'll crap your pants...

I've heard that two quality 10"s are better for SQ and BASS than two deecent 12"s. I like the JL ws6v2 or the Infinity 10.1d.

Re: Subs: 1 ported or two sealed?

i have one 12" sub which is ported by 2 x 3" ports and it sounds fantastic. the bass is spot on right through the volume min or max.

one sub is enough as far as im concerned unless you really need your ears cleared out...

Re: Subs: 1 ported or two sealed?

I run 2 pioneer 10' subs with an audiobahn amp. The pioneers hit harder than many other subs I've heard and fit very nicely in the back. If my box was ported I think my back window would blow off.

had 2 mtx 8000's and 1501d mono block amp < 1600 watts > and they were unported facing towards the rear of the car and if u turned it up windows up or down ur heart hurt and u had to get out of the car...insane sound but i guess what i am trying to say is that it all depends on what subs u have and how many watts u r running them at... refer to the subs installation guides and it will tell u wether to port it or not.... i know this is late also but i would go with jl audio equipment because they are so underated with there power rating but w.e u get enjoy it and dont get pulled over lol
