Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please
Well, the easiest way is with a big air gun, but if you don't have that, you have to lock up the flywheel with something and then use like a 2ft breaker bar. I've gotten them off that way as well.

Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please
I tried the impact at 150psi with the flywheel locked in place... just pounds away but doesn't come undone. Hopefully I'll get it eventually.

Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please
Spray it with PB Blaster. You must have a shitty ass impact wrench, at a 150psi it should about brake the crank in half.

Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please
It's a Husky Brand impact. Sprayed it with PB Blaster earlier. I'll keep spraying it all night and hit it in the morning. Still got the truck to drive around in to no real hurry on the repair. Sucks, this is the only bolt holding me back. Already got both manifolds loose.

Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please
I have an air gun with 500ft lbs of torque, it takes them right off. If you have the flyheel locked, get a breaker bar.

Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please
I take that back 4G4D. I had a bolt on the crank pully i wedged that held it till I put the 3' cheater pipe on it and bent the bolt.
What the best/ easiest way to lock up the flywheel? |

Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please
I took off the flywheel guard plate under the engine and wedged something in the gears, once locked I was able to break the bolt free.

Yeah that works great, till you shear off the gears.

Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please
I barrowed my friends Impact 500ft/lb max and his 1/2" air hose and it didn't budge. I have the pully tied down to the frame of the car. I'm wondering if that's the problem. Do I need it so the pully will spin, but not the crank it's self? With the Pully tied off I've already cracked 1 socket and 2 extensions, and warped the shit outta my 3/8" breaker bar. I now have a 3/4" drive breaker bar and socket along with a 6' water pipe. I'll wait till further word before I use it.
What could I be doing wrong? Just wonderin... It's not a reverse thread correct? Also, might it be possable to just slip the belt off the cam, redo the head and some how manage to slip the belt back on? This 1 bolt Is kickin my Ass. |

Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please
Wow - you've got a stubborn bolt. Hmmm, having the pulley tied down to the car shouldn't make any difference. If you've got the flywheel locked, you should be able to break that bolt off with a breaker bar. I would use anything less than a 1/2in socket though - cause you'll snap them off all day long. I'd give it another try with the new one.

Re: Crank Pully Removal help Please
