SES light on

I just bought a 2002 supercharged xterra with 80,000 km and the SES light came on? Has anyone have this problem too with 80,000 km what can the problem be other then a loose gas cap.

thanks

Re: SES light on

Welcome

There is a handy tool here at Automotiveforums.com......the search tool.

There have been alot of posts about codes coming up on X's. Most people either unplug their negative battery terminal, which removes the computers memory or they take their truck(yes truck....it's not a car)to Pep-Boys or the like and they read codes for free. They'll also cancel out the codes for free. I'd suggest doing the later because you don't know what is causing the light to be on. Pretty simple fix, nontheless.

I agree with XBBO, take it to get the codes read and put out the light, it may never come back on and if it does, you'll know where to start to look.

Sometimes a little 'glitch' in the system will set a code and if you clear the code, it MAY not come back.

my 2001 x did that right after i bought it... it took awhile to figure out but it turned out it had a grounding issue with the o2 sensors, dont know if the 2002 had the same.
