Head porting: NA vs. boost
In a previous trhead regarding boosting an itr, whtteg mentioned that there are different ways of porting depending on the application; if it is FI or not.
I have only seen pages where people describe "how to port a head", and never make any mention of different techniques. I assume these must have been NA ports. What is the difference between porting techniques? Anyone done it? Is it a DIY job? and anyone know of any good tutorials/references? My next project will probably be cams, cam gears, and valvetrain, so if this is a feasable DIY I might try... |

Re: Head porting: NA vs. boost
Posting a head is in no way a DIY project. You have to have lots of experience and the proper equipment to port a head right. If you try to port the head your self you will probably end up with a very narrow power band. If you want it ported then take it to a machine shop or head porting shop and let them do it.Also when you take it tell them what you are going to do with the motor, go ahead and pick your turbo size, compressor trim, boost level, cam specs etc. Give them all the information you can and they will port it to match the rest of your build. This will give you a very nice end result and maximum power output too.
