instaling automatic start on an 87

Well its getting pretty cold out there now, and i've decided to buy an automatic start for my 87 cherokee. Before i Start i was wondering if anyone has installed one themselfs, and had any problems with it, I'd like to get some pointers on it before i mess up my ignition system bad!!
I have a video that i got with the kit but i just dont trust it. so any help would be appriciated. Do it for the Jeep...

What brand is the remote start? I know that pro-start has a web site that makes life a lot easier. You punch in the serial off the remote module and make and year of your vehicle and it will tell you the colour codes of the wires your looking for. you don't have to remove the ignition switch, just follow the harness down, remove the lower dash panel. You can download the factory shop manual to help indentify the wires from this link. Let me know if you need any further help.

DEI has out-the-door units like Rattler series and comes with a password to get into their highly reguarded Techsoft website. Your car is so simple. I wish new cars were as easy as yours. Just did a '93 Lebaron. So much different than a '05 TrailBlazer

Well, don't get what LYKWTUC got. That's the one from Bulldog which is horrible to install and use. The wires are all super short and the range sucks. I just installed one for a customer yesterday in a new Saturn. I should have turned it down but didn't. As I was testing it out, the parking lights took a shit and stunk up the car. I once had a customer want me to install 3 of them. One for him, one for wifey, and one for inlaws. 1st one was DOA, the second was way screwed, and finally as I watched him pull the X-mas wrappings off we had a winner

I know why I am the only one around that will install them but it's good money to turn down. Funny thing is that after they pay for the item and me to install it, they could have had an awsome new DEI unit from me.

Re: instaling automatic start on an 87

I've had no problems with pro-start, I've installed four, they are , however one of the cheaper ones, its been two and half years and no problems. By default, they through a neg signal for the door locks so you have to install after market relays to have that part work. Don't know if you have power locks or not, but as a basic starter , you cant' beat them for the money. Sounds like DEI is a good brand too... I'm in Ontario Canada so I dont' even know if pro-start is available in the usa.

Ive only done chrysler and Jeep. I had better performance with Design Tech than Bulldog. Your Jeep is fairly simple shouldnt have too much trouble. When it comes to splicing in the wirring harness make sure you have the right wire before soldering in. If you dont solder go with the 3M type grip lock connectors.

Well I bought the kit from Farm & Fleet, cause it was $40. Its made by design tech, and i havent got around to puttting it in yet, cause im scared of messin up stuff and costing myself mad money. However its getting so cold in Wis that im not dragging my feet much longer. Thanks for the input though i always appriciate it. Merry Christmas All!!!
