Question 90 teg RS swap

Hey,
well i just wanted to say that this forum is awesome and i see a lot of helpfull advice so thanks for that.

My question is about a swap i wanna do for my 1990 acura teg RS but i dont really know what kind of engines will fit my car. Right now i have the b18a(130HP) but its old and tired and i would like more power and an engine that i could maybe add nos or turbo.I want an engine that will bolt right in and is fairly simple to do.I helped my friend put in a ZC in his civic hatch and that swap was pretty stright forward. So any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

Also, how can you tell if you have a JDM or a USDM.my onwership says model iRS and my code starts with a J but im pretty sure that its a USDM?PLEASE HELP!!!thanks

Re: B16A or what d'you say????

Well it is a usdm engine unles you got your car shipped from japan. I've heard the b16a is an easy swap to do, but in my opinion it's not enough power for a teg. I got a 93 rs and was planning on rebuilding the block for a turbo setup with a b16 or b18c head (ls/vtec). if you plan on doing a turbo and you don't want to spend a lot of money swap a b18b or rebuild your b18a for a turbo setup.

Re: B16A or what d'you say????

boosted b18as and b16as not making enough power? i think you guys should research a little more before stepping into boost.

the stock b18a and b16a will easily make 300whp reliably with the proper engine management systems(if you want to use whp as a factor of measurement).

If you really want to know if your high mileage b18a will handle boost, go get a compression and leakdown test. that is the real determinent factor in the health of your motor.

Re: B16A or what d'you say????

i agree with super, if your motor is running fine after that comp test. just slap a turbo on it, not even something big maybe like 6-8psi tops, you'll be well over 200hp and the stock internals can handle it.

however if your motor is dieing, why not step it up to like a b18c(GSR motor) you'll get more power and the only hard part to install it would be wiring for vtec but even that is only 4 extra wires.

Re: B16A or what d'you say????

Whoa, first post in months, almost a year maybe. Anyway, the VTEC solenoid on a JDM and USDM looks different, the JDM one is larger. Also, I agree with the aboves about the power sequential, but I noticed that as time passes, I am losing my interest in B16a motors now. Why not pay just a tad extra and get a B18c1 or even getting a b18a/b? B16A swap is fairly easy to do, I've done one myself, and if it makes a difference, I'm a girl. Let me know if you do decide on it, I'll be more than happy to help ya through.

Picking the motor is too controversial. too many ways to go. a good way to go is to pick what you can afford and start from there. you will have bigger things to think about after the swap, but, everything will fall in place in due time.

Personally I would rebuild the b18a before I bought a b16a. If you are determined to swap the motor and stay NA then get a b18c, but if you just want more power, look into turboing the b18a like all the others said. If you have a lot of money, turbo a b18c and put that shit in. You will haul ass. The b18a is a good motor though, just build it. Oh and by the way, it's so nice to see that some girls will get dirty. I wish girls around here would come work on cars with me. Instead they are all too busy looking pretty and going shopping.

I still don't see why you would consider a b18b if you already have a b18a. I'm assuming that if you build the motor, you'd bore it out anyway, so the KM's won't matter. I agree with one of the comments above, first plan should be to get what motor that is affordable. If it doesn't matter between a b18c and an LS motor, I'd still go with the b18c and haul ass. But, have you looked into vtec+turbo as opposed to non-vtec + turbo? Very opposing.

Well shoot, I can see that you look pretty, and most girls are shop-aholics, but at least you're willing to get dirty, right? The difference is that most girls around here are deathly afraid of dirt, and wouldn't even let the sexiest guy come anywhere near them if he was dirty from working on a car. Just think about how much fun you can have when you're greasy and dirty .

Re: B16A or what d'you say????

wut up...
ok if u know about motors...take the shyt apart and bore it out..polish and everything..and turbo charge it...

lis the girl said..u want vtec + turbo??? or not..

how much $$ u got.....

everything factors in!
if not..buy a ls motor and throw a turbo on...

ls motors are a few hundred cheaper than gsr and rs is a lighter body than the rest..
so u should have good power
