Re: how to paint fine lines?
It depends what you're trying to paint. I suggest that you mask of the area with Tamiya Masking tape or equivalent tape and then paint with brush, spray can or air brush. The air brush gives you more control over the paint flow and also the best result IMO. There is more to learn in the "AF Car Modeling Tutorial and How-To Depository"
Good luck! Niclas |

Re: how to paint fine lines?
If you want straight, thin lines then don't paint it at all. Rather get hold of some coloured decal, cut it into strips and us that instead. BMF or similar foil/tape works well too.

Re: how to paint fine lines?
Yes, you need to thin the paint for brush painting. A rule of thumn is to thin the paint to about cooking oil consistency for brushing, and milk consistensy for airbrushing. Also, make sure you mix the paint real well before painting - get atoothpick and stir the paint for a good minute, then close the lid and shake for a while. Then the paint will be properly mixed for use.

Re: how to paint fine lines?
I have never thined paint for brushing (at last, for new bottle)
and yes, use masking tape for thin like. if you need to do chrome window trim, try Bare metal foil.

Since you're using acrylics, you shouldn't need to thin the paint. But if you do, use water, not thinner, since acrylics are water based.

Re: how to paint fine lines?
Tamiya Acrylic don't thin with water. You need Tamiya Thiner or Alcohol.

Just to clear this up. you can absolutely thin Tamiya Acrylic with water!!! but if its a gloss color its better to use Tamiya Thinner but not regular alcohol! for flat Tamiya colors you can use water, alcohol, or Tamiya thinner, you get the same results. but gloss colors will dull a little if you dont use Tamiya Thinner. this is the general concensus of all the modellers i have asked and many web pages ive researched as well. and yes, i thin with water all the time with no problems. This is for acrylic ONLY!!!!
