oil change light?

hey guys I just got my 02 yukon and changed the oil. now about 1000 miles later, every time i start my car the "change engine oil" message comes up. I'm guessing there is a way to reset it everytime you change your oil so that it reminds you in 3,000 miles? Is this correct, is it something only the dealer can do?

Thanks!

Re: oil change light?

The owner's manual says to turn the key into the run position, with the engine off, press the gas pedal to the floor 3 times within 5 seconds. The oil change light will the flash, then it is reset. My guess is that they forgot to reset it. BTW, it doesn't come on only at 3000 miles, but rather is based upon the driving conditions and style. I do my own oil changes and mine has come on at 3000 miles and other times up to 5000 miles. Hope this helps....

The puter constantly monitors engine oil temp. and acceleration loads and determining when an oil change is needed. Most change oil lights come on when 20% of oil life is left.

Sweet guys! I got it reset, thanks for all the input. It wont do me much good this time since I had driven about 1500 miles on this last oil change before i reset the computer, but i'll be sure to reset it when i change next time too. Thanks! had the car 4 weeks and put almost 3,000 miles on it, I think i need to travel less heh.
