Help with sunroof Problem-Only closes
My sunroof started acting up and I'm stuck with it off my car. It was opening automatically. If I hit the close button it closed part way and stopped. As soon as I let off the button it opened back up. After taking off the top I got it to close all the way, but then it wouldn't move at all.
I started taking it apart. I took out all the components near the actual sunroof. No problems. I followed the spring tube thing back and fiddled with that a little bit. It was a bit misalligned so I fixed that. Now it only goes goes in the close direction. I was stupid and kept hitting close until the spring popped out. I assume I can put it back in, but I don't know what is causing it to go one way. It's not the switch, I tested that. Do I need to replace the motor? Any help would be appreciated. Also, when i do get it running right again is there a way to align the sunroof bars? When I would close it too far they would pull out of the sun roof and the back side would float free. Also-I swapped the relays mounted on the bar behind the motor. With the one farther back removed the sunroof would not retract at all (nothing moved), but with them switched it still moved backwards only IE: no change from before the switch. |

Re: Help with sunroof Problem-Only closes
I didn't see any teeth missing. The motor wasn't moving one direction. No noise at all. It seemed like a physical obstruction or something from the way it was bouncing back when this first started. I tapped the switch both directions when I took my car out tonight and I'm pretty sure I heard it both times though. Maybe it's over. I'll have to wait till morning to check it. I'd still like to track it down, because even if the problem stops for now it's bound to show up again.

Re: Help with sunroof Problem-Only closes
and you say you've had the panel down in the hatch? you can adjust the roof from there, but it can be a bit tricky, also check catches behind top rear roof panel for correct alignment

Could this help? I can't help you. I have a manual sunroof so this is all foreign to me.

Re: Help with sunroof Problem-Only closes
That may be very useful in the future. I actually managed to get it working again. This was after cutting vinyl on the interior (none of it visible), taking apart the sunroof mechanism, pulling apart the trunk and the motor assembly in the back. Interestingly enough I don't know exactly what was wrong. I think part of the assembly in the hatch came loose and it was jammed, but I'm not entirely sure. I'll use those links to pul it apart and get it together right. I also have to replace one of the front clips. I think it was cracked before, but now it's pretty thoroughly broken.
