h22 oil pan gasket

Im going to install a Autometer Electric oil temp gauge and i need to (i guess) take off the oil pan and get the fittings welded in this weeked. If someone knows how to exactly install this or if i can do it without dropping the pan let me know. But anyway if I drop the pan when i go to re-install it with a new gasket that I have do I need to put any lub on the gasket and oil pan? just curious. If i do what kind. Anyway if someone could help me with an easier way to install it that;ll be so cool
