Trans Am Issue

So i went to go test drive a 1995 trans am this morning because i am considering buying it and i came out with 2 problems. or potential problems. The car has nitto drag radials on it and i realized when accelerating fast it swayed side to side (not like traction loss but the body swaying but tires remaining in a parallel line w/ the road). the guy told me that this has been happening even since he got the radials on it but im wondering if it could be the suspension or something...

does anyone know what the problem could be with it. im planning on getting it checked out before i buy it but am wondering if this is a major problem or a common problem with that kind of tires that isnt even worth getting it checked out for.

the other problem is less severe but i cant think of what to do, the low coolant light was on when i went to drive it, he told me that he was messing with something and lost a bit of coolant but it isnt leaking or anything. is this a major concern?

I have a third gen with suspension issues ,it goes side to side in the rear, bounces on uneven roads, and goes back when I gun it but then it evens out after a second.I am going to install new shocks, struts ,springs,pan-hard bar ,pair of trailing arms in the rear and I hope it fixes my suspension issues.I have a third gen and dont know how much different they are from 4th gens,as far as suspension goes.

Re: Trans Am Issue

k, i think i figured it out, sum1 told me this, because drag radials have a soft sidewall so the reason im swaying is because the tires r twisting and being distorted when in fast acceleration. can someone confirm this for me.

thanks for the posts in advanced

If they are true drag tires witht he soft sidewalls then yes, it will cause a sway feel.

Re: Trans Am Issue

hit a few hard corners, and listen to see if the tires rub the inside of the rear well.if not dont worry too much.

that is true, soft large sidewalls can cause swaying

check the bushings in the rear end. Drag raidals don't have that soft of a sidewall to cause that, slicks do but not DR's.

Re: Trans Am Issue

I agree with Hppsi87, if the bushings are bad, or even been removed you will get some radical feelings like the rear end is swinging out, as if you were trying to smoke the tires off the line. Not a safe condition.
