97 monte carlo z34 dies

Here's the deal... I was driving down the road today and I was going to set the cruise. Wouldn't work, then the radio lights went blank. I was pulling up to a stop sign and the engine started surging and then died. I tried to start it back up, but the starter just clicked. Came back a few hours later and it started right up. Drove it back towards home and everything was working fine (cruise, radio lights). Slow down to about 25 mph and the engine starts surging again, dies, doesn't start. Any ideas on what could be the problem? It only has 82,000 miles on it. If I can get it running, i'm going to go trade it off. Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: 97 monte carlo z34 dies

Sounds like either your battery or your alternator is shot. The newer vehicles will not run on just the alternator like the old ones used to. if the alternator is not charging the car will runn till the battery looses enough of the power then dies, after it sits a while the battery will recover possible enough to start the car but then soon dies again. I would start by having the battery/alternator checked. Sounds like a simple enough problem if it is just the battery or the alternator and not really worth getting rid of , unless it has given you problems before. I know what it is like to constantly be repairing a vehicle.
