surging taurus

I own a 2000 taurus. Before i came to Afghanistan it started surging while idling along in the parking lot. the scan tool showed that it was tring to shift gears while going 6 mph. if i manually placed the transmission in low gear it doesn't surge. it also surges while coming to a stop sometimes again like a gear change. anyone involved with fords seen this, better yet fixed this?

Re: surging taurus

I had a surging on my '02, at idle while cold. Was going to take it in for a look see at the dealer and the service writer told me to replace the fuel filter and come back if it still was a problem. Didn't need to go back.

Hi, transmissions in nwe cars are computer controlled. it sounds like the computer is getting a bad signal form a sensor somewhere, the computer itself is defective or the trans is going bad. use the code reader to see if you have any diagnostic codes present. start with the easiest (sensor) and eliminate everything before you mess with the trans.

I have a 2000 taurus wagon. Also surging. When the engine was hot and the idle dropped below 1000 rpms in drive, so at stoplights and while parking.

Dealer tried to recreate 3 times, but never let it warm up. Also their computer analysis couldn't find a problem.

Finally I got in the car and drove with the service technician. Nothing happened until we pulled into the service bay, he slowed it down and the thing surged, leaped forward and almost killed a guy rolling a tire across the floor.

They wound up replacing the tranny.
