Transmissions suck dude. Back in May I lost first gear, would grind and pop out all the time. So I had a complete rebuild done and new clutch put in my GST. Well, the thing leaked like a fucking sive, I had it back no less than 10 times for axel seals, gaskets and other stupid shit. Then about a month ago, it was grinding when I shifted into first even when stoped, and wouldnt go in unless you were completley stoped. So I take it in under waranty again, the pull it apart find that the clutch (which they admit was adjusted wrong) was totaly burnt, purple in color, and worn to the rivets. They repleaced reverse, first, and second, as well as all the synchros and put a new ACT 2100 clutch in for free under waranty. So I pick it up last night and its seems good to go, so I leave for school (300 miles away).

Today I get off work and go out to leave and the clutch just didnt seem right. I drive it about 10 miles down the freeway and get off to go to my apartment. Clutch is slipping like you wouldnt belive, I can bearly touch the gas to get going or it slips. So I get home (like .5 miles) and check the clutch fluid, yep, nothing, bone fucking dry. Appearently they messed up the slave cylinder and it all leaked out, so my clutch is probobly again fucked and im driving a rental for another week.

Thats how mine started, had to hold it in first gear, that lasted about a month maybey before it went to hell and started grinding. Its not gonna last long that way by just holding it in. Its probobly the combination of a worn gear and synchro. Believe me, Ive been through just about anything with the tranny here

Re: bad luck...

congrats, finally you are entering to the turbo world, is funny how parents almost everytime belive things like that so maybe on summer you'll come down here on a gs-t or gsx, you don't need to borrow my car, maybe you will have a turbo car running before me.

Re: bad luck...

hehehe, i was kinda in the same position. I'm 17 myself, but parents would let me get a car as long as it was under 9K, had under 50K miles on it, and was in good condition and I paid for 1/2 of it. Since GSX was/is impossible to find with that, the moment i saw the GS-T up for sale with the kind of credentials...mmm, snatched it up. Wait for a few months for a good deal tho, cause you dont wanna be stuck with another problem. Mom wont let me mod it, but my dad owned a modded RX-7...so i guess hes alright with it, which is what i'll be doin in any case. My first isnt bad, you just have to shift it a little tougher when going back into 1st. Reverse is sometimes wants to grind to, but i found that if you let it roll a few inches, it goes in smooth. Is it just me, or is first gear and reverse a little troublesome on 2G tranny's?

**maybe i need to change out my tranny fluid...

Re: bad luck...

I know exactly what you are talking about Scoped_GST. It's tough to get back into first gear unless completely stopped, and I rarely get into reverse without a little trouble/grinding sound. I assumed its normal as this is the first manual car that I've owned.

I would love to be told it was normal too so I don't have to worry about it but from the posts so far...

Re: bad luck...

lol, my tranny can get into gear just fine when rolling, just have to push a *little* harder, not that much, it just doesnt feel as smooth. FOR THE GRINDING IN REVERSE - pretty much all 2G tranny's ive driven in including the one me and my friend swapped into his galant. let it ROLL a little bit forward or backward if you feel some resistance going into reverse(so dont throw it into reverse really fast). Me and my friend have both used this technique, and I havent ground reverse since the first week i got it when i discovered this "issue".
