Popping in front steering
I have a 1999 Cherokee Sport 184,000 miles 4.0 liter 2-wheel drive. Relpaced the sealed bearings due to a roaring sound. I now hear a loud popping sound when I turn the wheel to the right or left. It is only at low speeds. I have checked the shocks and front suspension, all seem to be fine. No play in anything. It sounds like a bad cv axel, but having a 2-wheel drive they do not exist on this model. I have had it in the shop twice and they have found nothing. What could this popping be?

Re: Popping in front steering
i have a 1993 cherokee that was doing something similar to what you describe. i had a friend steer back and forth while i inspected underneath.
i found 3 cracks in my frame close to the steering box. if you know how to weld, and know someone with a welder you could probably do it depending on your experience level and the severity of the problem. mine was pretty easy. |
