91 S10 Died Now Won't Start HELP!!

Was on the way to work this morning and my 91 s10 blazer 4WD 4.3 died suddenly and now won't start. It is about 30deg outside and I was about 15 mins into my drive. This has never happened before. It has a new battery, starter and alt. Didn't make any noise before it died. Turns over just fine. Does anyone have a good idea what might be wrong or where to start looking?

Sounds like the fuel pump went. You need to have the pressure checked. You could check the fuse and the relay but...... a 91 more than likely has lost it's pump.

I agree, it's a very common problem with most newer auto's and an easy one to prevent by changing the fuel filters often.

Sorry to say that it's a pain in the butt to fix, your best bet is to lift the box to change it.

If it happened to me I'd be very tempted to get a welder (or better yet bodyman) to plasma cut a hole above, and fabricate a stock looking cover that I can take off next time. Some smarter car companies do this at the factory.

I've replaced 2 fuel pumps in s-10s, common failure, squirt some starting fluid down the intake to be sure it a fuel problem and not ignition problem.

Thanks for all the help!! Got it home and checked to see if it was getting fuel and it was. Removed the distributor cap and it was pretty bad looking inside. Replaced the cap and rotor and it fired right up. Never seen a car just die suddenly with no missing or other symptoms and have it just be the cap and rotor as the culprit.

Thanks again!!

time to start doing regular maintanence.

Your plugs are probably shot too now.

Also, chances are your oil is full of fuel seeing you were cranking the engine over so much with no fire.

Re: 91 S10 Died Now Won't Start HELP!!

Had a friend with chevy 1500 4.3 that died on him due to old distributor. There is a reason that along with wires plugs and rotor should be changed every 30,000 miles. If you keep on top of the maintenance your truck will last a long time.

Changed the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor not more than 15000 miles ago. The truck has 220,000 miles on it and it dosen't use any oil yet. I drive 110 miles a day to work and back. Paid $900 for the blazer 3 years ago and hasen't cost me much other than to replace a few things that normally wear out by 200,000 miles. I sure can't complain.

Re: 91 S10 Died Now Won't Start HELP!!

These trucks are rocks and the 4.3L is one of the toughest engines on the market.

The problem is not with the trucks in most cases, it is people that won't take the initiative and get off their asses and maintain their trucks properly.

Hell, most trucks never see a grease gun but people come on here bitching about their front ends being shot after 50,000miles.
