Problem with Alero turn signal

Hello all

I have a 2000 Alero and the turn signal is apparently going bad. The lights themselves are fine, but the control switch seems to be failing, as it goes from a normal and steady, to rapidly flicking the lights, and making a buzzing noise.

Is the control switch the most likely problem? If so, how does one go about replacing it? If not, what is another likely cause?

Thank you.

Re: Problem with Alero turn signal

Go to the dealer and have them fix it. It is under a recall right now and they'll fix it for free. The hazard switch has bad soldering in it causing a short.

Does the recall cover only 2000 Aleros? I have an 01 Alero. I looked at Alldata and couldn't find it listed.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Problem with Alero turn signal

I believe it covered all 2000 and some of the 2001. Take your car to the dealer and tell them the problems your having and you know that there's a recall on the 2000 and the most likely fix it for free.

Re: Problem with Alero turn signal

All 2002's have been fixed, correct? My 2002 was produced in August of 2001, so anyone think mine will be effected?

Found this on the GM site. I think Feb 04 was about when the cards were sent to owners.

GM Will Recall 2000-2001 Malibus, Aleros, Grand Ams
Automaker Will Replace Hazard Warning Switch
DETROIT (Sept. 5, 2003) – General Motors will recall about 783,000 certain model year 2000-2001 Chevrolet Malibu, Oldsmobile Alero, and Pontiac Grand Am cars to replace hazard warning switches. This recall involves only those vehicles built between February 1, 2000 and May 1, 2001. About 671,000 of these vehicles are in the U.S. and 88,000 are in Canada. The rest are outside these countries.

These vehicles have hazard warning switches that may malfunction because of exposure to rapid temperature changes and a soldering process. This could cause the hazard warning and turn signal lights to work intermittently or not at all. GM has not received any reports of crashes or injuries related to this condition.

During the first quarter of 2004, GM anticipates that parts will be available. Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified, instructing them to bring them into their dealers. Dealers will replace the hazard warning switch at no cost to the customers. Affected vehicle owners who are experiencing a problem now with operation of turn or hazard warning lights should contact their dealers.

i have a 2000 Alero and my turn signal is bad

I called an oldsmobile dealer and the service person said after checking my VIN that my particular car wasn't under recall but he wanted me to come in and fix it. Do anyone have a suggestion on what to do about it. I feel that my car should be on the recall and that I shouldn't have to pay.
