Axles colors, is it yellow, red, blue, etc?

While back, cv joint was busted so we got an axle from napa and everything was okay. But before that, we'd tryed pep boys and they gave us the wrong axle, didn't quite fit in the hole on the tranny. But the napa fit. Now the colors on the axles are stripes and I've heard that they are different colors. What color stripes should be on the axles? I've also heard numerous things about the 88-89 axles are different than the 90-91, the 88 has different spline count, and the std base 4-speed tranny axles(which I have) are different than the dx/lx/si. Could someone clear me up on this? I've used the search feature, but nothing real big on the colors. I need to know the colors.

I have an 89 std. 4spd and when i replaced the driver side axle it had one yellow stripe. Also if im not mistaken the dx/si one will have multiple colors (not sure what colors though) Hope that helps.

as far as i know the only difference on the std model axels is the number of splines on the outter cv joint. i believe they have 23? and all others had 28? not sure if there is a difference between years.

its not the number of splines that's different..its the actual size of the end that goes in the hub... std's have smaller hubs...

I'm not sure about the colors, but I know that the Si civics have integra suspension, so the hubs are bigger than the others. dx/lx models have smaller hubs and I'm also thinking that the std is the same as the dx/lx. As far as the tranny, all d series trannys that are 5 spd should have the same splines. Auto's have a different spline I believe, not sure on the std.

si and dx and lx axles are interchangeable.. and hf and std axles are interchangeable... that's the deal.

I've looked up sites on the axles and the have a axle with a yellow stripe and another with a red/pink stripe. Which models do they go to?

Si/EX are different than LX/DX - the outer hubs on the Si/EX are integra, not civic.

Re: Axles colors, is it yellow, red, blue, etc?

SI and EX have larger brakes up front (integra brakes) stock. Which also means they have integra hubs. You can swap integra front suspension straight across with no problems. So a Si/Ex axles has D series inside and b series outside in a sense. Also, the part numbers for the EX/Si and different from the LX/DX. And yes, the HF and STD are different than the other two. Mind you these are all Manual Transmissions. So, looks like honda has at least 3 different axles for the 88-91 civic manual transmissions.

Re: Axles colors, is it yellow, red, blue, etc?

you are right about the EX... my mistake..forgot about that.. it does have the bigger brakes..but the si/dx/lx all share the same hubs/axles/brake setup..

Re: Axles colors, is it yellow, red, blue, etc?

I thought the SI (90-91, not sure about 88-89) had integra brakes and stuff up front too. I could be wrong, but I thought the EX and the SI had the integra front suspension.
