I just bought a 99 plymouth neon and there are a few wierd noises i need to work out. first off i know that i need to get new brakes. but when i switch from park to reverse to neutral to drive... in between each 'shift' my car makes a small movement and makes a sound (like a dog barking) is that just the brakes or is it something more?

Re: 99 neon noises!?!??
Bad motor mounts or tranny mounts, I would say...but I've never heard a car make a noise that sounds anything like a dog barking.

I agree with the mount issue...Have someone inside the car put the brake on, and with the car running shift from park to drive and to reverse...you'll probably notice a noticable movement from the engine...if so it's the mounts...not a difficult job to do...

Re: 99 neon noises!?!??
Mounts are cheap to fix. In fact, what I do is go to Home Depot, pick up a tube of window and door polyurethane, and fill the mounts with it. Take the mounts out, and just fill the rubber part in.

I took it to my mechanic and explained to him the problem, and when he checked the entire car out, he said that there was nothing wrong with it, it wasnt noticeable enough that he could hear it and he drove it and worked on it for a good hour. So im gonna wait and see what happens i guess, hes a really good mechanic so i trust him
