Bypassed PCV Valve

I was doing some PM this afternoon and when I got to replacing PCV Valve, I could not find it. So, I move to the air cleaner housing to see if there is vaccuum, there is. My question is without a PCV Valve, which someone who had the vehicle before me must have bypassed, I would think there would be some negative consequences. So I start pulling plugs, sure enough #2 cylinder is oil coated. By the way 1990 2.3 four cylinder with 8 plugs and no distributer, so the bypassing of PCV Valve not that unbelievable now. What kind of problem must there have been to bypass the PCV Valve?

Re: Bypassed PCV Valve

Well bypassing the PcV isn't good for your engine but i don't necessarily think its that bad. The PCV is the way for the engine to burn gases it creates in order to reduce enviornmental crap. but it does sound like you have a somewhat serious problem. Definetly get it checked out by a Qualified Mechanic.
