Question Renault Laguna Immobiliser

I have a 1999 T reg Laguna that has an intermittent immobiliser fault, sometimes the car will start sometimes it will not? It is currently with the Renault dealer, they said it was the ring decoder?, so I told them to fit a new one (£93) it didn`t make it out the garage still faulty? Now they want £230 to do a wiring check! I am desperate to get the car back on the road as my wife uses to get our 3 kids to school and also for work. Can anyone advise me on how to de-activate the immobiliser please?

Re: Renault Laguna Immobiliser

i cannot think of a way possible to disconnect the immobiliser, the, you would have to dissarm part of the ecu basically, with renault diagnostic computer software it would be possible to have a "play" about with it but even at that probobly not completely dis-arm it.
my advice would be the only thing you can do is try the other card you have or key depending on model.sometimes it can be a problem with the key that causes problems.
failing that try and find a speciallist in immobilisers and with a bit of experience in renaults, they may well be able to diagnose the fault a lot quicker.

Re: Renault Laguna Immobiliser

Ive just had the same problem - thought it was the immobiliser - had the ecu checked -all ok - there is a company called fuel parts that will check it for you for 55 quid - so started to check out the engine and wiring - i found the problem - firstly check that you are getting fuel to the fuel rail - remove plugs and check for spark - check injectors are working - if all is working apart from plugs and injectors i strongly recommend you check the relays - these are in a little black box at the back of battery - 1 is the fuel relay 2 is the engine control relay (ie plugs and injectors) - you also have 2 in the facia under the drivers dash - there is 2 main ignition relays - hold your fingers on top of the 2 purple ones and operate the ignition switch if you feel them clicking - then there ok - for the sake of 30 quid renew the engine control relay - that was my problem - if you still suspect the immobiliser - this can be checked by observing the red led light on the dash - if you need more help - get in touch - andy

you cannot de-activate the immobiliser as its an integral part of the ecu - read my above post - andy
