dropzone coilovers
I wanna get some dropzone coilovers for my 95 dx. I know these are a realy poor choice for suspension but I dont have 1,000 dollars for a tein set up. Would it be a good idea to stiffen up the struts or what can be done to them so that they can perform bettter with the coilovers.(dont say replace them)

Re: dropzone coilovers
how much do you have to spend. Someone might be able to suggest a good alternative.

Re: dropzone coilovers
are just springs not an option? I noticed you live in Cali so you don't exactly get snow during the winter.

Don't waste your money on dropzone. Too many people assume Tein is the only answer. They do make good products but they really have done a good job cornering the market so to speak, as many people tend to assume if they can't get Tein it's all crap. This is simply not true.
You don't have to drop mony on teins, but there are other options. First of all, keep in mind that anytime you lower your car you will need new shocks within a few months. The stock ones will blow out, so save some $$ for that after you buy coilovers. As for coilovers, Skunk2 and Ground Control are the only 2 sleeve type coilovers I would recommend. If you want sleeve coilovers, then I suggest savig money. Dropzone really is crap. The only thing keepig your car chassis in control when driving and turning is what? The suspension!!! It is important to not use crapy products with something impotant like this. I suggest waiting until you have a little more money, say $300-$350. You can get into a good set of Sleeve type coilovers like Skunk2 or Ground Control then. Skunk2's cost around $338 usually, though if you look around you may be able to find it less. The spring rates Linear rates and are 450lbs/inch front and 350lbs/inch rear. Skunk2's have a 90 warrenty which does not cover sag, though I have never heard of this happening with skunk2's. You can not get custom spring rates with SKunk2, but if you want stiffer springs you can get the 94+ Integra sleeves and they will work. 550 front 450 rear. Ground Control's cost between $299-$338 depending on what type you get. Normal Ground Controls arn't quite as stiff as Skunk2. However, with Ground Control's you can specify a custom spring rates and spring lengths, so if you desire you can make them stiffer, softer, etc (if you do this I suggest you ask for their suggestions if you are not knowledgable in suspension ). Ground Controls have a lifetime warrenty to the original purchaser, this also covers sag. If you really can not afford those and can not wait, then get good lowering springs instead. H & R, Eibach and Neuspeed all make good lowering springs within your price range, and all are better than dropzone!!!! No matter which route you go, you will need new shocks within a few months. As for shocks later on, Koni yellows are good shocks. They are rebound adjustable. These would be probably the best shocks to pair with the coilovers. They have a lifetime warrenty. KYB AGX and Tokico Illuminas are also an option and are better than stock shocks. Tokico does stand by their lifetime warrenty, but the car can not be "excessivly lowered." On the HP's this means not more than 1.75" I am not sure about the Illuminas, though if you call them and ask for Ray he can tell you. Koni yellows can handle more of a drop than these 2, but these are more affordable. Designated by "SP3" at the end of the product code). http://www.neuspeed.com/home.asp?ltype=ns_import 805-388-7171 Koni http://www.koni-na.com 859-586-4100 Tokico http://www.tokicogasshocks.com/ 1-800-548-2549 KYB http://www.kyb.com/kyb.php 630-620-5555 Just for the heck of it, here's their site in japan, though it's the version in english so you can actually read it. http://www.kyb.co.jp/shock/index.html http://www.kyb.co.jp/english/menu_e.html

Re: dropzone coilovers
Not with the OE sports. They are only .75" drop and not much stiffer than stock. If you go with the Sport or Race springs you will need to replace your struts.

so...if i were to buy these coilovers from neuspeed...
http://www.neuspeed.com/products/product_details.asp?app=18|CV&type=2<ype=ns_impo rt&p_id=898 the shocks come with them right? i am just worried cause i was going to get some tein coilovers and i'm confused as to whether i get the shocks in the tein package (for over a thousand, i better). anyway this is the first time i'm looking at the neuspeed site and i see that their coilovers are cheaper. what would you all suggest? |

Re: dropzone coilovers
You get the shocks in both applications. It's really up to you which one you get. The Bilstein shocks are proven to be excellent shocks.

Re: dropzone coilovers
usually most coilovers come with spanner wrenches to adjust the perch. You just jack your car up to get the weight off of the springs, and turn the perches up or down.

Re: dropzone coilovers
In reference to eckomam_pdx's post, I have Ground Control sleeved coilovers and they work well for my street application. The best thing about them is they allow you to build your suspension in stages when you are on a budget and you can order them with whatever spring rates you want. If you ever decide to change up your suspension, new spring rates are just a phone call away. Anyway, you can start with them, then move on to replacing your shocks, bushing, sway bars, so on and so forth.
Also, pay attention to the advice you get on peoples experience with shocks. The quality of your shocks and how well they match your application is a huge factor in determining your ride characteristics. I have KYB AGX's, and while they get the job done, they are far from Moton remote resevoir racing units. If you do go with a sleeved coilover setup, (only look at ground control and skunk2 like mentioned before) call up the manufacturer to find out what they recommend with the spring rates they send you.

Re: dropzone coilovers
I got dropzone coilovers on my ride they were given to me from a friend because he sold his car and put all oe back on.. They arn't too bad for being free but I have heard they arn't good, but can't argue with a freebie. WHat if you got coilovers and adjust your ride up or down won't that change your camber alignmnet? I never adjusted mine after I got alignment done becaue I figured it would throw it off.
