Is there any way to make it so you can safely shift in an automatic without...

Hey guys. I just wanted to know if there's any way you can shift in an automatic (without having to change it to a manual) without beating up the transmission... Any suggestions for what I should do to the car?

an autostick (except Ferrari/Maserati and SMG) is NOT a manual without a clutch, its a plain old automatic with an electronic override.

Leaving your automatic in drive is faster than trying to shift it yourself.

The best thing is just to make your foot heavier for the gas pedal. lol just drive is enough. L 2 3 that dont matter cuz your auto shift rite before it hits redline.

I don't know about that... I heard you get better times when you actually shift the auto...

Depends on the car. In a grocery getter it will be "tuned" to shift at relatively low rpm. On sports cars they are typically programed to shift at the optimum rpm for accelerating. Someone I know ran a 3g eclipse and shifting manually it was never faster than letting it do it on its own, no matter what he tried. But as variable change so will optimum shift points. The tranny is programmed for a stock motor with stock HP curve. A modified motor may need to shift at higher rpm, etc. Only way to find out is to do both and see what works. We can all discuss this on the internet all day, but in the end the timeslips will be more accurate
