'93 GMC Suburban Oil Pressure Gauge Question

Hi, I'm a new guy here, and I come to get advice for my brother.

He just bought a '93 GMC Suburban, 1500, two wheel drive, most options, 127,000 miles, exceptionally well cared for, mostly country and highway miles with some barnyard critter trailering. Putting over 700 vacation miles on it with him last week, it road, handlled and drove like a new truck. Really sweet.

I personally think as it stands right now it may be the best deal Jim ever made.

However, he has this fixation on the oil pressure gauge. At idle rpms, the gauge reads around 15 lbs and then reads 30-40 lbs while driving. I told him it looks normal to me and our cousin who owned a Suburban too said it seemed ok to him also. But Jim just can't get it out of his mind that 15 lbs is not acceptable.

So as many of you as read this, please at least give me a yea or nay as to whether 15 lbs is ok or not. (He asked me to ask around on the net.) Any info beyond that would gladly accepted too.

He's fretting himself silly over it, hopefully your answers will help calm him down. This truck is emaculate inside and out and should give him many years of good service.

Thanks for your help,
Bob Hansen

Normal.
if I remember right, 3-5 psi turns on the low oil pressure light

Thanks GMMerlin,
Love your name, goes perfect with the credentials in your sig line. When I send the total collected info, I will pass your credentials along with your answer to Jim, hopefully it will help put his mind at ease.

Please, anyone else who will back up GMMerlin's statement, please do so. Jim can be really thick-headed. (Family trait on both sides of the gene swamp. ) The cousin previously mentioned happens to be the GM dude in charge of Cadillac dealer maintainance quality control for the state of Michigan, he still doubts.

See why I'm banging my head?

Thanks again,
daBobberz

Re: '93 GMC Suburban Oil Pressure Gauge Question

I had a '92 Yukon with the same thing. I ran High-Tach oil supplement to add a few psi. Ended up replacing the oil pump at about 150k when my oil pressure dropped to about 3-5 psig at idle, I also got the "Check Guages" light. I installed a high volume oil pump and that solved my problem.
