heres the deal

ok I bought my 86 GT 5.0 5spd for $1300. (107k miles)

only thing wrong was the tires and a smashed muffler which i already replaced both.

i believe the tranny to be goin out cause it grinds between 2nd and 3rd on a hard shift and in neutral when you push the stick to the left (to move into 1st or 2nd) it stays in the left position when u let go instead of resetting to the middle below 3rd.

how much life do you think is left on that trans? also the clutch seems to be very strong.(prolly replaced before)

im just wonder what you guys would do in my situation as far as performance parts and what not keeping in mind the price into the car afterwards and its value in the end. I dont mind have 4000 into the car if its worth 3000 afterwards. also before upgrading parts should i just buy them all then have the engine rebuilt with the new parts or what?

i want to add performance but dont want to lose too much money into the car cause its old.
(i hear since i have the 86 model it has flat top pistons and crappy heads, so is it a waste of money to even work on the car, having to buy all that stuff in addition to the performance parts and tons of labor costs?)
