Couple of months ago I would drive to somewhere for about half an hour and then go into a store for a couple of minutes then get back into my explorer. When I try to start up my Explorer it starts up around 2000 RPM's and then goes down to about 200-300 RPM's and then sometimes it either dies or goes back up to about 900 RPM's and idles fine. I replaced the IAC valve this morning and is still doing the same. I was wondering at one point in time if it was the Fuel pump and/or filter. But when I went down to my local Automotive shop they told that it wouldn't be the fuel pump/filter if I can pass people or something similar to that. Which I can do. So I don't know what the problem could be.
Can anybody help me??? I would appreciate it a lot. I have a 99 Explorer Sport w/4.0 SOHC Automatic Transmission. |

Re: Starts up when hot and then dies
Just give it a little gas when the rpm starts
to fall. It should be all right after that. |

I would like to fix the problem though. Ive been giving it gas so it doesn't die. It's embarassing when I go take it somewhere to have fluids changed and the people start it up, it dies on them. Then they think they did something wrong.
