Red face Help needed! Central locking gremlins & BCM on 98 GV

Hello all
Have a 1998 Grand Voyager that we bought in January. Great car, except for a problem with the central locking. It locks/unlocks itself intermittently, sometimes set off by driving over a bumpy part of the road, other times no apparent reason.

I've been reading thru this site & I've worked out that it could be the Body Control Module, would it help to disconnect, then reconnect as a starting point?

Also where exactly is the BCM & what does it look like. We're in Australia, steering wheel on right, would the BCM still be drivers side, or passenger side?

There was a reference on another thread to car-part.com to look for 2nd hand BCM's. Under Chrysler I couldn't find any parts that seemed to be it. Its been confusing enough to realise what we call a Grand Voyager is also referred to as a caravan/town & country etc. Am I simply looking in the wrong place on that site?

Any help would be appreciated. We haven't found any mechanics in our area that are familiar with these cars.

Cheers

Problems like this can also be caused by a defective security system control unit, perhaps even a aftermarket one that is not controlled by the BCM.

do your locks cycle when van is just sitting not running or does it only happen when you are moving it could be a few different problems but i need to know this if it happens when it's sitting not running like over night or stuff like that i would remove both front door panels and disconect both lock cylinder switches but you must remember this is what disarms the alarm system if equiped and the only other way to disarm system is with oprational factory keyless entry fobs and must unlock doors with fobs or alarm will sound and van will not start and if you must be moving for door locks to cycle you must check and adjust all door ajar switches the front doors are the little black switches at the back part of the door post if you look closely the center of the switch slides out and this is your adjustment and if someone slams the door too hard it pushes the center in too far then the adjustment is out and you rolling locks will cycle when driving and the sliding doors the switches are different and are at the rear post of sliding doors and just pry out disconnect wire connector then place switch in something like a vice
loosely and push the center down through the bigger round part it will ratchet down that is the adjustment for that then when you close the slidind doors it will adjust or ratchet on its own to the proper depth Good Luck

Thanks guys for the responses.
The security system is not an after market one, & the car does unlock while sitting.

What I've found is that if I press the keyless pad twice, say to just open the boot, then lock it by pressing once the lock pad, it'll unlock itself moments later. Then if I unlock the car again, but only once with the keyless pad, it'll stay locked. Thats the only time it mucks up while parked.

I tried disarming the self locking mechanism (turning key off-on 4 times & unlocking master lock on drivers door) but it didn't make any chime like stated in the manual.

I've driven 2 short trips since & it only locked/unlocked itself once on the same bit of road it used to go ballistic on, so I guess thats a start

Will get hubby to look at the door adjustments this weekend.

I appreciate the help, thanks

i would pull the trim panels and disconnect the switches on the door lock cylinders and then just use you keyless entry transmitter to unlock doors for the next little bit if the door locks don't cycle anymore you will need new switches only
