For the pro's. Engine swap for 83 TE-71
I've got a 83 Liftback RWD still. This car is about to be sold unless I can think of something to do with it.
I've decided to make it into a project car but the first thing is the engine... 150K+ miles won't do... I need a new engine and something powerful. Tell me what engines will fit. I know that a 4A-GE and even 20vvt or 4A-GZE will fit... I want the most power possible...

If your Te71 has a 2T-c or 3T-c it should be fairly simple to fit one of these engines.
2T-G 1.6 Dohc /w factory twin carbs. these are fairly equal in performance to a stock 16v 4ag. 2T-GE as above but with EFI 3T-GTE 1.8 Dohc turbo if you can find it this would be lots of fun but more expensive to maintain as it uses some unique parts. buy some spare gearboxes and try to find an Ma40 series supra axle as these have LSD and disc brakes. 2T-G can make 200hp very cheaply, especially if stroked using a 3T crank. 3T-GTE are probably the strongest old-school toyota 4cyl good for 300hp with just bolted-on bits and tweaking. 4-500hp is no problem once fitted with aftermarket rods, pistons, a larger turbo and aftermarket management. |
