Re: Engine Wash!!!!

cover all of your electrical parts with plastic bags. douse the engine with simple green and spray with a hose. Works pretty good for me.

jackasssi, don't take this the wrong way (because you have helped my ass out a bit on here), but I did do a search, and I couldn't find any of your threads. Got a link?

I was checkin just to see if anyone had some neat tricks, like how to get behind the motor, or into the nooks and crannies of the various manifolds. I've tried tons of different vaccum nozzles, toothbrushes, and I've even melted a few brushes trying to bend the head to the right angle.

anyone ever use oven cleaner? I always wondered how that might, if it would, work. Same principle, breaks up the grease and dirt/grime that sticks all that oil and grease to our motors.

how about polishing the valve cover? any suggestions for that? I took mine all to hell with a carbide brush on the dremel and can't get the polish to take, still stained from oil.

whoo, long post, sorry, but thanks for any help.

Re: Engine Wash!!!!

Trust me that steam cleans the dirtiest engine, all little nooks and crannys. The simple green is good too just more of a pain but, it gets the job done and can be found at any store that sells bathroom kithen cleaners and suff.

Re: Engine Wash!!!!

wheel186 i was a little boozed, my bad.

steam cleaning it the best way and usually inexpensive.

next best way is with a power washer and some degreaser. run the engine 5 minutes before cleaning, helps loosen some junk. If your using a strong degreaser be careful not to get it on your clear coated surfaces, usually every thing but under the hood. I spray the fenders & bumper with water and then drape clean wet towels over those area. Start with the underside of hood if no insulation, spray water then degreaser and then power washer to blast it off. Now do the same thing to the engine while being carefull around sensitive electronics. I use water in a spray bottle to rinse critical areas(Computers, Alternators, Main connections, etc. Use a trouble light to check your work, reclean any missed area's. Remove most of the standing water for the final step - Dressing. Don't use tire dressing, most of it's flamable and attracts dirt quickly. Your better off using a water or silcone based vinyl dressing, not armor all. mist all area, even underside of hood to help brighten it up. Close the hood, make sure she starts, let run for 10-15 minutes, open hood and admire.

If the dressing isn't even use a foam applicator to spread it out.

Re: Engine Wash!!!!

I hosed my entire engine bay down, sprayed this stuff on, and washed it all off. Then I let the engine run for about 5 min after. They sell engine cleaner stuff like this at all auto shops.
