heater blower stopped working yesturday

I have an '02 E39. I believe it is the fuse, but I can't seem to locate it. I have fuses in the trunk, and in the glove box. The little map for the fuses show the heater blower one to be in there but its not. Its the only one thats 40 amps, the rest are 5, 10, 15, or 20. Does anyone know where it is???? Help me out! It's cold now.

If the blower is working intermittently, I would say it's the a/c blower motor final stage resistor. It is mounted into the heat/ac box on the right hand side of your trans. tunnel under the dash.

Thanks for the advice. I hate going to the dealership 1. because its on the other side of town and 2. because I fell like an idiot going for a fuse.

So on the transtunnel under the dash huh. I looked everywhere last night except there. I pulled off the two air filter housings behind the struts and pulled my glove box apart!

Heater Blower

Thank you Tuna Woods for the information - you were dead on the money, My blower went out completely because of that resistor. Picked the part up from BMW and installed it myself.

For anyone having the same problem the resistor is located as Tuna said, you can find the resistor following the wire from the climate control box following the wires that travel around the the passenger side. The resistor pulls out with a pair of plyers if the handle is on the part, otherwise you will have to work with the plyers on the socket. I will post photos of the part for viewing.

Thanks again tuna...

Dear aclegg I was wondering if the end stage fan resistor is reached from the inside of the car or from under the car. Also if from the inside, do you have to take apart much? Was the part expensive and was is time consuming to replace? I would appreciate it if you could post some photos to guide me. Thank you aclegg
I would also like to thank Tuna Woods for the great information. His description of the problem is exactly what is going on with my car. Heater started to work on and off and suddenly went dead.

I'll all for supporting the sponsers, but I don't need to purchase a Blower, I just need basic troubleshooting tips on checking this blower issue..... Mine goes on and off whenever it feels like, and from these postings I get the idea that it is that resistor, but I'm not a mechanic so I need a little more help in tracing the location of that resistor so that I can inspect it. I've searched everywhere for fuse #75-76 and don't see then anywhere, not in the trunk, or the glovebox,,

Any help from ANYBODY would be appreciated....

You know it could be as simple as you need a new final stage. They cost about 50$ plus install.
