1992 88 stalls
I have a 92 88 that stalls after the engine comes up to operating temp. So far the O2 sensor, MAF sensor, Knock Sensor, Cam Position Sensor, Temperatur sensor, ignition module and computer have been replaced. The car will run about 30 minutes until it starts registering around 210 or so on the temperature gauge. Then it just shuts down. It will restart after about a 30 minute wait or if you reset the computer. It does not matter whether the car is idling standing still or being driven. The computer says code 17 (rpm signal problem)(cam position sensor)(ecm failure). Seems no matter what we replace the car continues to stall. Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks |

Re: Re: 1992 88 stalls
Thank You For Your Reply. I Had Alreadty Tried That Along With A Tune Up ( Plugs Wires Etc.) , Oil And Filter (like That's Gonna Help), Cleaned The Crank Sensor. Problem Still Exists.
Any Ideas? Thank You |

Re: Re: 1992 88 stalls
I have also changed the fuel filter, new plugs and wires, new oil and filter, plus flushed the radiator. I have read several posts from others that are having this problem but no one seems to know what the cure for it is. As for resetting the computer..you simply take the positive cable off the battery for 30 seconds and then replace it. This resets the computer.

I have a 1993 olds 88 with the 3.8 liter engine.. i got it none - running found out it was the ingition modual replaced it with a used one.. few months later it died. bought a brandnew one... reset the computer and was getting the code 17 ohwell was running bad but no to bad... I overheated and ran like crap got code 17 again brought it to a shop and found out a blew the ignition modual again. come to find out my spark plug wires were bad... which blew my ignition modual again. and the heat didnt help. It is no longer reading any codes and is running alot better. though it now occasionally stalls. just something to look into

Re: 1992 88 stalls
My 1992 olds stalled once when I was driving... and then after it would only start when it felt like starting.. GM told me I needed all these parts(ignition module, new keys, maybe coil pack) I thought that was funny. Some guy told me all I needed to do was get the resistance measured from my key, and then get a transistor that matched it and put it somewhere in my ignition... I was confused so I made him do it for $50 cdn... all my problems are soved.... except the HORRBLE fuel economy.
