Re: Clear Service oil Light

With a lot of cars, you simply turn the key to the "run" without actually starting the car and step on the gas pedal 3-5 times. The light should blink a couple of times to tell you that it is cleared? Check your owners manual and see if it might tell you there.

WOW...Funny..I did not know that.....On what type of cars were you able to test that! I did not have that problem anytime, but if that is the way to clear it, I would not have known !!! I'll put that in my "don't forget" list....

Re: Clear Service oil Light

I have to do that on my 97 Chevy Lumina. When you change the oil, you need to reset the computer to tell it that you changed the oil. Otherwise, after 8000 miles or so, the "service/change oil soon" light will come on to tell you it's time to change your oil.

Re: Clear Service oil Light

That's probably a safe guess. I've owned a couple of OBD I GM's and none of them had that feature. My OBD II GM does have it.

Re: Clear Service oil Light

Would this be the "OIL LEVEL" light. This light started to come on after my first oil change. There is no mention of this procedure in the manual. Could this be another thing GM kept to themselves?

You're welcome ... I'm glad that you were able to get that trick to work for you.
